Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to appear on ABC’s daytime talk program The View on Tuesday, in what is expected to be a closely watched and potentially combative interview. The appearance coincides with the release of his new book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, which will be published the same day.
He will sit down with co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro at the show’s New York studio. According to ABC, the discussion is expected to focus on his personal story, the themes of his book, the Trump administration’s current policy priorities, and recent political developments in Washington.
Vance’s appearance places him among a very small group of sitting vice presidents who have participated in the program. Only Joe Biden in 2014 and Kamala Harris in 2024 have previously done so.
The booking has already drawn attention due to the program’s history of openly critical commentary toward Republican leaders, including Vance and President Donald Trump. During a recent broadcast, Goldberg referenced his upcoming appearance while also criticizing certain administration initiatives and urging viewers to stay informed and engaged ahead of upcoming midterm elections.
The interview also comes at a time of heightened scrutiny involving ABC and its parent company The Walt Disney Company, amid an ongoing review by the Federal Communications Commission regarding whether The View should retain its exemption from equal-time requirements applied to political programming. The FCC has raised questions following a recent appearance by a Democratic Senate candidate and is considering whether the show still qualifies as a bona fide news interview program under federal broadcasting rules.
ABC has pushed back against the review, arguing that The View remains a regularly scheduled, editorially independent program that selects guests based on news value rather than political favoritism, and that changing its classification could raise concerns about limiting political speech during an election cycle.
