A juvenile was injured in a shooting near the White House that triggered a brief lockdown and a swift response from federal law enforcement authorities. Officials said the victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The incident occurred near the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C., an area that is heavily monitored because of its proximity to key government buildings. According to Secret Service Deputy Director Mathew C. Quinn, the confrontation took place only minutes after the vice president had departed the vicinity, adding another layer of concern for security officials.
In an initial statement, the U.S. Secret Service confirmed that its personnel responded to what was described as an officer-involved shooting. Authorities said the event began when Secret Service officers encountered an armed individual, leading to a confrontation that resulted in gunfire. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the encounter, and additional details have not yet been released.
The shooting comes shortly after another high-profile security incident involving an alleged threat against President Donald Trump. Federal prosecutors have accused 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, of attempting to breach security at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner held at the Washington Hilton. According to court filings, Allen allegedly entered the venue while carrying multiple weapons and attempted to move toward the ballroom where the president, senior administration officials, journalists, and other guests were gathered.
During Allen’s initial federal court appearance, prosecutors argued that he posed a significant danger and should remain in custody. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jocelyn Ballantine told the court that the defendant had allegedly sought to assassinate the president.
Officials have stressed that investigations into both incidents remain active. Law enforcement agencies continue to review evidence, interview witnesses, and assess potential security concerns. Authorities emphasized that any threats involving government officials or protected locations are treated with the highest level of seriousness and will be thoroughly investigated.
