According to Colombia’s geological authorities, the earthquake’s epicenter was located near Villavicencio, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) southeast of Bogotá. The tremor struck at approximately 10:47 a.m. local time and lasted for nearly 45 seconds, with strong shaking reported across Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, and nearby municipalities.
Emergency officials said the strongest effects were felt in parts of the capital, where several buildings sustained structural damage. Residents evacuated homes, offices, and businesses as emergency sirens sounded throughout the city. Transportation services experienced temporary disruptions while engineers began inspecting bridges, roads, and public infrastructure.
Photographs from affected neighborhoods show damaged residential buildings with cracked walls, shattered balconies, broken windows, and debris scattered across surrounding streets. Firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and specialized rescue teams quickly responded to the hardest-hit locations, searching damaged structures and assisting injured residents.
