New controversy is unfolding around former President Joe Biden after court filings revealed accusations that his attorneys attempted to block the release of audio recordings tied to the classified documents investigation. The dispute centers on tapes reportedly featuring Biden speaking with his ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer, while working on his memoir years before returning to the White House.
The legal challenge was brought by The Heritage Foundation, whose Oversight Project is seeking public access to the recordings. According to reports, Biden’s legal team argues the tapes were created under expectations of privacy and should not be released for political purposes.
The recordings were originally obtained during Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified materials after serving as vice president. Although Hur’s investigation drew intense political attention, prosecutors ultimately decided not to pursue criminal charges against Biden.
Recent filings suggest the Justice Department may now support releasing portions of the recordings and transcripts to Congress and outside groups, marking a shift from its earlier position. The ongoing legal fight has fueled renewed political debate, with critics demanding greater transparency while Biden’s supporters argue the case is being amplified for partisan reasons.
